Cafe in Causeway Bay: Good day with good food: delicious handmade burger hidden in a small street side
Causeway Bay is always a foodie’s paradise, but sometimes it’s quite hard for us to find a cozy restaurant with a quiet environment for chit-chat.To escape hustle and bustle of downtown, Haven street must be listed in my top ten. There are more than a dozen independent shops in this alley: cafe, Japanese dessert shop, izakaya, western restaurant, independent designer brand……They are all extraordinary and bring fresh style downtown. Today I came across this cozy little restaurant in the alley - Good Day Cafe!
Good Day Cafe located at the entrance of the alley. It is a tiny restaurant with a limited number of seats, so I had to queue up for seat awhile in lunchtime. If you are not hungry, maybe wait until 2 pm and enjoy a recharging afternoon tea without queuing~
Good Day is decorated in simple and minimalist Japanese style, with some lovely decoration on the wall. If you sit at the side of the window, the afternoon sun's slanting rays surely make your day! Oh, and for the girls, the natural light is perfect for photo shooting as well!
The menu is a simple cafe selection, set lunch and set dinner, and students discount are also available. You can get a set for just $40-$60. That’s really a steal! Btw, there’ll be a quality festival menu as well.
These are the dishes I ordered:
GoodDay Special Cheese Fish & Chips ($103) 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Tasty fish & chips reasonably priced! The portion is HUGE compared to the price and the size what you often get elsewhere! What a bargain! Not to mention how fresh and tasty it is.
Wowwww! Cheese is oozing out the golden brown crust! The fish are well fried, with crispy thin batter on the outside moist and tender on the inside. Golden chips are also crispy fluffy. All were served hot and fresh. Never thought that would cheese and fish pair quite well. The cheese wasn’t heavy and won't overshadow the savoury taste of the fish.
GoodDay English Breakfast ($102) 🌟🌟🌟
I am always addicted to all-day breakfast because I never have time for breakfast. So enjoying this abundant English Breakfast really really makes my day! The green color toast is made from spinach. The color is appealing but to be honest, it’s just a normal toast and didn’t taste like spinach at all. Hashbrown is pretty good and hot enough, not too oily. Scrambled eggs are soft and creamy with egg scent. It’s perfect to eat with sauteed mushrooms. As for the salad, the fresh vegetable can reduce the greasy feeling of the bacon and sausage, but the Balsamic vinegar dressing is slightly too sweet for me.
Trucker Portobello & Beef Cheeseburger ($123) 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
And now we come to the highlight~ Portobello & Beef Cheeseburger!!! This is an amazing burger with all the trimming, loaded with a handmade patty from ground beef, grilled portobello, fresh red leaf lettuce and tomato, nice cheese. The patty wasn’t meaty at all, but quite juicy. What impressed me most was the portobello. The taste and aroma were very strong and perfectly matched with the patty! Flavourful and didn’t drip greasy.
ICAM 56% Dark Chocolate ($48) 🌟🌟🌟🌟
I rarely order a chocolate drink at a restaurant because they are usually too sweet to me. I’d like to have a try as it is 56% chocolate! Yes, It didn’t taste very sweet indeed, but with a strong bittersweet flavor of dark chocolate. So rich and thick. Plus the whipped cream and marshmallow, not only eye-catching but definitely a comforting drink to those who love dark chocolate.
Apple Pear Tea with Cinnamon Stick ($48) 🌟🌟🌟
Can’t you see! It was a heart-shaped cinnamon stick! Heart-shaped! The drink smelled great. It combined aroma from cinnamon, apple and pear. The flavor of cinnamon was quite strong, overpowering the other ingredients. It was overall sweet but fitted to drink in winter.
Daily Dessert: Apple crumble tart 🌟🌟🌟
I got a free daily dessert in this meal, a delicious apple crumble tart. It looks good. The sweetness and softness were just right. The fig was fresh. But to those who don’t like cinnamon might think that the aroma was strong. Have to be shared between two because the portion was big!
